THE PERFUMER
Perfumery began as a personal fascination with the evocative nature of scent—its ability to recall memories, conjure distant places and capture fleeting moments.As a self-taught Australian perfumer, I developed a small collection of fragrances inspired by classical compositions, historical traditions and the distinctive beauty of individual materials.After several years away from the craft, I have returned with a renewed appreciation for the art of perfumery, taking a slower and more considered approach to each creation.
THE PHILOSOPHY
Perfume as memory, atmosphere and expression.
I am drawn to perfumery that possesses a sense of history. The rich textures of classical chypres, the warmth of resins, the intimacy of musk and the expressive beauty of floral materials continue to inspire my work.
I believe a fragrance should possess a character of its own. It need not be fashionable or universally appealing, but it should be thoughtfully composed, evocative and capable of revealing something new as it develops on the skin. For me, the most memorable perfumes are those that leave a lasting impression beyond their individual ingredients.
Each creation begins with an idea, an impression or a feeling. Through experimentation and a careful exploration of materials, I seek to translate that inspiration into something tangible, intimate and enduring.

Before this new chapter, Kirrin James Perfume was home to a small collection of independent fragrances, each exploring a different character, atmosphere or facet of classical perfumery.
Presented here is a selection of those earlier creations — an archive of ideas, experiments and olfactory memories that continue to inform my work today.
SELECTED FRAGRANCES
ORIENTALIST
Resinous Glory · 2019
The first creation from Kirrin James Perfume, Orientalist was inspired by the perfumed elegance and romantic imagination of a bygone era.
An opening of succulent orange, cardamom and clove leads into an elaborate heart of frankincense gathered from several regions of the world. Myrrh, labdanum, benzoin, precious woods and amber create a warm, richly textured foundation.
Resinous, aromatic and unapologetically classical, Orientalist sought to capture the atmosphere of an earlier age of perfumery, where fragrance was an expression of mystery, refinement and sensuality.
SUB LUNA
Sandalwood Dream · 2020
Inspired by the imagery of a moonlit dance and the song The Piper by ABBA, Sub Luna explored the interplay between luscious fruits, intoxicating florals and a richly wooded landscape.
An opening of apricot, peach and gentle spice gives way to a floral heart of rose, jasmine sambac and osmanthus. Beneath these lies a generous foundation of natural Australian sandalwood, soft woods, incense and musk.
Originally developed as an extrait and later refined as an Eau de Parfum, Sub Luna represents an exploration of warmth, atmosphere and the relationship between richness and diffusion.
DAARHI
Street Barber · 2020
Daarhi, meaning 'beard' in Hindi, was inspired by the roadside barbers of Mumbai, where the familiar aroma of shaving cream mingles with the fragrant offerings of nearby chai and paan vendors.
Bright bergamot and lime introduce a lively blend of Indian spices and the distinctive sweetness of betel leaf. Lavender, geranium and Indian genet absolute form an aromatic heart, resting upon oakmoss, patchouli, labdanum and a warm musky foundation.
A nostalgic interpretation of the traditional barbershop fragrance, Daarhi brings together classical fougère character and the sensory atmosphere of an Indian street.
CAROLYN
Natural Rose Chypre · 2020
Named in honour of my mother, Carolyn is a celebration of the timeless beauty of the traditional rose chypre.
Sparkling bergamot, lime and petitgrain, illuminated by a touch of aldehydes, introduce an abundant floral heart of Kazanlak rose otto, rose absolutes and geranium.
Oakmoss, patchouli, sandalwood and natural ambrette seed provide a richly textured, softly musky foundation.
Bright, green, radiant and deliberately classical, Carolyn was created as an expression of my enduring affection for the great rose chypres of perfumery.
